Drought causes $430 million in agricultural losses

Drought has caused nearly 6 billion South African rand ($430 million) in agricultural losses in the Western Cape region in South Africa, IOL.co.za reported. Carl Opperman, chairman of Agri Western Cape, said the drought's effects are likely to continue for up to three years. Jacque du Preez, an official at industry association Hortgro, said that the drought and heatwave has hampered production of plums, stone fruits, peaches and apples.
