Janitor cleans house on comp fraud scheme

A janitor in Manchester, Connecticut, was caught double dipping his mop in the same bucket, so to speak.

Ronald Gordillo had been collecting workers compensation on an injury he suffered in June 2017 while cleaning bank branch offices for a janitorial firm. Five months later he was caught on surveillance camera multiple times — still out on leave — cleaning the same offices for another janitorial firm, according to inspectors from the Connecticut workers compensation fraud control unit.

Mr. Gordillo stated under oath during a deposition that he had not been working since the reported injury, according to a statement from the Connecticut chief state’s attorney’s office, released Monday, which noted that he had already collected $17,408 in comp benefits he was not entitled to.

The 34-year-old janitor has been charged with one count of fraudulent claim or receipt of benefits and one count of perjury, according to the statement.
