N.Y. launches virtual comp hearings for workers, attorneys

The state of New York on Monday launched its virtual hearings option for injured workers and their attorneys, according to an announcement issued by the state Workers’ Compensation Board.

The New York State Workers’ Compensation Board has redesigned its hearing process, enabling injured workers to avoid traveling to hearing sites statewide by instead relying on video conferencing technology and a computer or mobile phone with a camera, according to the new state manual on virtual hearings.

In addition, a common online check-in procedure has been created for both virtual and in-person hearings to streamline the check-in process, according to the announcement.

Attorneys or representatives are now required to check in to all hearings using the online Virtual Hearing Center when appearing in person at a hearing center, as a customer service representative will no longer be able to check in attorneys or representatives at a hearing center, according to the announcement.
