Museum sets sights on president’s life insurance application

The William McKinley Presidential Library & Museum has set up a GoFundMe page to come up with the $4,750 to purchase the application for a $50,000 life insurance policy made by the former president 122 years ago, according to an article on CatonRep.com

As of Wednesday — the proposed deadline for the campaign — $2,127 has been raised for the museum in Canton, Ohio, the hometown of the 25th president of the United States.

The museum learned of the document when officials were contacted by a representative of the owner—Signaturist, Ink. —which sells autographs, historic documents, rare signatures, art, antiquities and artifacts, according to the article.

“William McKinley’s handwritten application for a life insurance policy dated July 30, 1896, recently became available for sale,” McKinley museum officials posted on the online crowdfunding page. “The Museum would like to acquire this for our permanent collection, but we do not have the funds to purchase it ourselves. We are hoping that a crowd-sourced campaign will help us bring this rare and unique document home to Canton, where it belongs.”
