Something stinks about insurance adjuster’s assessment: Lawsuit

A Grants Pass, Oregon, woman is suing her homeowners insurance company after a skunk sprayed her dog and belongings inside her home, ruining $112,000 worth of possessions, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

Katherine Schaeffer, in a lawsuit filed this summer, claims her insurer, Safeco Insurance, has only paid $2,000 for the damages. In addition to costs to cover the damage to her property, Ms. Schaeffer is also seeking $38,000 for other costs, including cleaning and living expenses, according to the wire service.

Ms. Schaeffer’s lawyer told a reporter that the claims adjusters failed to grasp the extent of the stench, and a “special personal property rider” on his client’s homeowner policy should cover the damages.

Safeco spokesman Glenn Greenberg declined to comment, citing the pending litigation, according to the wire service.
