AmWINS appoints former Swiss Re exec as underwriting executive

AmWINS Group Inc. has named former Swiss Re Ltd. executive Robert Petrilli to the newly created position of president of its underwriting division, effective immediately, the specialty insurance wholesaler said in a statement Monday.

He will run 11 operating companies offering more than 60 in-house programs and representing over $1.7 billion in underwritten premiums on the managing general agent platform, the statement said. He will report to CEO Scott Purviance, according to an email from a company spokeswoman.

Mr. Petrilli, who will be based in Charlotte, North Carolina, served as CEO, North America, for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Ltd. and group managing director for Swiss Re Group, part of Swiss Re Ltd., from 2006 to 2017, the statement said.

“Our underwriting division has seen incredible expansion over the last 24 months, and we expect that this accelerated growth will continue,” Mr. Purviance said in the statement.
