PETA requests life insurance policy on meat eater

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals on Thursday sent a letter to New York Life Insurance Co. asking to take out a policy on a New York man who recently made headlines by promoting an all-meat diet.

“We’d like the insurance policy beneficiaries to be the animals we campaign for so hard in order to spare them the horrors of factory farming, transport in all weather, and the slaughterhouse,” PETA officials wrote in their letter to the life insurer, requesting coverage for Wally Walters.

Mr. Walters was on Fox News recently talking about his daily “carnivore diet”: "Bacon. Eggs with cheese in the morning, so all animal products, and then I'd have a pound of ground beef for lunch, usually burgers, and then at night, I'd either have another steak or have more burgers.”

PETA is hedging that Mr. Walters, whose age was not mentioned in reports, will die young. “A meat-only, high-cholesterol, fiber-free diet is a recipe for an early death by heart attack, stroke, cancer, or other disease related to meat consumption,” the group said in the letter.

Mr. Walters, meanwhile, said the diet helped him lose 20 pounds and that he feels more energetic that ever.
