Data breach bill could surge due to hidden costs: IBM

A study by U.S.-based IBM Corp. found that a mega data breach could cost an organization up to $350 million due to loss of reputation and business along with recovery expenses, ZDNet.com reported. The study found that the average cost of a data breach increased more than 6% year over year to nearly $4 million when fewer than 100,000 records are compromised. Organizations on average took 197 days to uncover a data breach and about 69 days to contain the damage, the study added.
