Parents’ insurer pays $107K after unruly child knocked down statue

It pays to control your children. If not, there’s always your insurer.

Such is the case of the infamous case of a child who this summer knocked down a $132,000 statue at a community center in Overland Park, Kansas. The television news show “Inside Edition” reported Wednesday that the parents’ insurance company paid the city $107,000 — not the entire loss — for the mishap.

The cringe-worthy incident occurred while the family attended a wedding in June at the city’s Tomahawk Ridge Community Center, according to the report. The mother sat in the foreground while her child raced around, knocking down the statue. The incident created mayhem in the media as parents on message boards debated whose responsibility it was, as the city aimed to recoup the money to replace the statue.
