Commercial version of blockchain platform launched

R3CEV L.L.C. has launched Corda Enterprise, a commercial version of Corda, the software firm’s open-source blockchain platform, R3 said in a statement Tuesday.

In addition to round-the-clock assistance and support for Oracle and SQL server databases, Corda Enterprise also features what New York-based R3 calls the world's only blockchain application firewall.

This will allow the platform to be deployed inside corporate data centers while retaining the ability to communicate securely with other nodes anywhere in the world, R3 said in its statement.

Corda Enterprise is interoperable with R3’s original Corda platform, and the firm adds that applications are now live on both platforms, with end users in the insurance, health care, shipping and financial services sectors.

“Traditional permissionless blockchain platforms, in which all data is shared with all parties, have issues around privacy, scalability and interoperability that render them largely unsuited for global business,” Richard Gendal Brown, chief technology officer at R3, said in the statement. “However, many enterprises, especially larger ones, face unique technical constraints. Corda Enterprise fine-tunes Corda for these firms so that they can adopt blockchain technology in a way that is straightforward and natural.”

Last month, B3i Services A.G., which recently incorporated after beginning as an insurance sector consortium, chose the Corda platform built by R3 on which to build applications.

Earlier this week, The Institutes RiskBlock Alliance, the insurance organization’s blockchain consortium, said that Accenture P.L.C. will lead development of RiskBlock’s production-grade platform to create blockchain uses for the industry.
