Not all travel insurance a smooth road, industry warns

Bumped off your flight? Long security line made you miss the plane? Bait-and-switched at the resort?

All travel nightmares, USA Today reported in its kickoff to summer travel season, but likely not covered by travel insurance. Refunds for flights booked on mileage, lost reservations, double-booking accommodations, ticket scams, last-minute changes and “not advertised” accommodations also round out the list, the newspaper reported.

The message is that redemption lies in the hands of the provider — the entity that scammed you, perhaps? — or other means.

“Experiencing one of these travel insurance nightmares doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re totally out of luck — or out of pocket,” the newspaper reported. “It means only that ordinary insurance won’t cover you, and you’ll have to attempt compensation through another means.”
