Insurers look to drones for quick damage assessment, payouts

Japanese nonlife insurers are increasingly using drones to assess damage following an accident or natural disaster to help provide quick payouts, The Mainichi reported. Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Insurance Inc. has also partnered with local governments for disaster prevention and response. Tokio Marine and Nichido Fire Insurance Co. has teamed up with a U.S.-based tech startup to build an artificial intelligence system paired with drones to calculate damage and estimate repair costs.
