Pacific Island nations mull setting up climate insurance facility

Pacific Island countries including Tuvalu, Samoa and Fiji are considering proposals to set up a climate insurance facility to protect against the effects of climate change on smaller island states, IISD reported. Meg Taylor, secretary-general of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, said that the facility will provide insurance against slow-onset and extreme weather events that are currently not covered by existing instruments.
