Swiss Re appoints head of UK and Ireland

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Ltd. has appointed Jake Algar as head of U.K. and Ireland, effective May 1, the insurance arm of the Swiss reinsurer said in a statement Tuesday.

He succeeds Marc Davis, who will continue as head of sales for U.K. & Ireland, the statement said.

Mr. Algar was most recently head of real estate at Zurich Insurance Co. Ltd.

He will be based in London and be responsible for managing the strategy, development and performance of the company's British and Irish corporate insurance operations and helping accelerate growth via its new regional hub in Manchester markets, the statement said.

"We have expanded our regional presence in the U.K. and are starting to lead domestic and international corporate insurance programs,” Fred Kleiterp, CEO of Europe, Middle East and Africa for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, said in the statement. “Jake's extensive network coupled with his industry and local market knowledge makes him the perfect choice to lead our ongoing growth in the U.K.”
