Scott Purviance takes over as AmWINS CEO

AmWINS Group Inc. said Tuesday that Chief Operating Office Scott M. Purviance has succeeded M. Steven DeCarlo as CEO, effective immediately.

The move, to be effective May 1, was initially announced in January.

Prior to becoming COO, Mr. Purviance was AmWINS’ CFO from 2001-2016. He was elected to the board of directors in November 2016, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based wholesale brokerage said in a statement.

Mr. DeCarlo, who was CEO of AmWINS since its founding in 2001, will remain on the board in the newly created role of executive chairman. W.H. “Skip” Cooper is moving from his current role as president to vice chairman of the board of directors.

In addition, James C. Drinkwater, currently president of AmWINS Brokerage, will succeed Mr. Cooper as president of AmWINS Group. Mr. Drinkwater will also retain his position as president of the brokerage division.

Benjamin R. Sloop, currently president of AmWINS Access, will succeed Mr. Purviance as COO of AmWINS Group. James A. “Tony” Gresham, who has been COO of AmWINS Access since its establishment, will succeed Mr. Sloop as president of the division.
