Miners granted more time to negotiate claims worth billions of dollars
Posted On: Apr. 23, 2018 5:31 AM CSTA Brazilian court has granted an additional 66 days until June 25 for miners Australia-based BHP Billiton Group, Brazil-based Vale S.A. and their joint venture Samarco Mineracao S.A. to negotiate a settlement of civil claims worth billions of dollars, News.com.au reported. The companies are facing two claims worth $47.6 billion and $6.1 billion related to the 2015 mine dam collapse in Brazil which killed 19 people and led to widespread environmental damage. Samarco's operations remain suspended as talks continue with the Brazilian government to obtain environmental licenses.
