Demolition of vacant silo becomes a towering bungle

Whoops just won’t cover this.

A Danish cultural center has been crushed after a vacant silo fell the wrong way while being demolished April 6, the Guardian and others have reported.

According to the report, cheering led to astonishment as the 53-meter tower fell in the wrong direction and crushed a nearby library and music school in the town of Vordingborg.

No one was injured in the bungle and the good news is that structural damage was limited, though things did get rather dusty, according to the library.

An investigation into the causes of the accident is underway, the Guardian said, adding that such a demolition gone wrong when a structure does not fall correctly is called a “stander”.
