Swiss Re forms specialty surplus lines unit

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is forming a standalone excess and surplus business unit in North America.

Ella Broks will be head of sales for the unit, E&S North America Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, and Darrell Pippin, head of E&S property North America, and Mike Kwan, head of E&S casualty North America, also will be part of the new unit.

The unit will include the insurer’s traditional E&S property and E&S casualty groups, which will grow with the addition of multiple lines of business in the near future, according to a market announcement from Ivan Gonzalez, CEO of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions North America.

Ms. Broks has been with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, the commercial primary insurance unit of reinsurance giant Swiss Re Ltd., for the past six years, most recently leading the broker relationship management team, according to the insurer, which added that further details will be forthcoming on the final structure of the unit.

Swiss Re said that having the dedicated unit will allow it to better respond to the specific needs of its clients and that the formation of the new unit “will have little to no impact on the day to day interaction between our underwriting units and your brokers.”
