Electric car makers face battery supply chain disruption risk: Report

A study by U.K.-based insurance broker JLT Specialty Ltd. found that carmakers globally could face significant disruptions due to a slowdown battery production for electric vehicles, Logistics Manager reported. The report found that eight of the 11 principal countries which supply raw materials for electric vehicle batteries are in territories designated as "high or very high risk of disruption." The Democratic Republic of the Congo, which accounts for 80% of cobalt exports, is vulnerable to political instability and interference, while the Philippines, which is a major source of nickel, is prone to natural catastrophes.
