Oil theft rises in Nigeria: Shell

A report by Royal Dutch Shell P.L.C. said that theives were stealing 9,000 barrels a day in 2017 from the pipeline network of its Nigerian subsidiary, 50% more than in 2016, Punch reported. Shell said that the increase was partly due to the militant-induced shutdown of the Forcados export terminal in 2016. Theft and sabotage caused nearly 90% of more-than-100kg oil spills. The number of sabotage-related spills increased to 62 in 2017 from 48 in 2016, Shell added.
