Fraudsters among California comp system’s latest suspensions

Physicians convicted of fraud and other crimes are among the 27 latest medical providers suspended by the California Division of Workers’ Compensation.

Ten of the providers participated in an illegal scheme to defraud the Drug MediCal program at Atlantic Health Services of Long Beach, a drug and alcohol recovery program serving high school and middle school students in Los Angeles County, the division said Tuesday in a statement.

Several others were suspended due to impairments in their health.

The latest round brings the total number of providers suspended to 234 after state law that went into effect in 2017 called for the division to disallow doctors who are convicted of crimes or who can no longer work safely to treat injured workers.
