Aon Benfield snags Carpenter exec to head Bermuda unit

Aon Benfield said Tuesday that Matthias Meyenhofer will become CEO of Aon Benfield Bermuda on Sept. 1 after leaving his role as head of Europe, Middle East and Africa global clients with Guy Carpenter & Co. L.L.C.

Mr. Meyenhofer will join Aon “in accordance with his existing contractual requirements,” Aon Benfield said in its Tuesday statement. Mr. Meyenhofer was also previously CEO at ACE Tempest Re Europe, the statement said.

Aon announced further executive changes for the Bermuda unit.

Tony Fox, chairman of Aon Benfield Global ReSpecialty Bermuda, will become chairman of Aon Benfield Bermuda, the statement said.

Jonathan Davies, senior global ReSpecialty broker and member of the global ReSpecialty executive team, will become head of Aon Benfield Global ReSpecialty Bermuda on April 1, the statement said.

“Augmenting our resources in this way reflects Aon Benfield’s commitment to Bermuda, and is in recognition of the widening experience, skillsets and capital now available on the island, and of our desire to better access Bermuda capabilities in support of our global model,” Nick Frankland, UK CEO of Aon Benfield, who also oversees the firm’s Bermuda operations, said in the statement.

“The addition of these two experienced team members signals the beginning of the expansion of our Bermuda platform. Matthias and Jonathan will play key roles in helping to drive our strategic growth objectives,” Mr. Fox said in the statement.

In addition, Aon UK Ltd. named Matt Kimber as chief risk officer, replacing John Nicholson, who has been interim CRO for the last 11 months, subject to regulatory approval.

Mr. Kimber, who will also join the Aon UK Ltd. board, joins Aon from Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group, where he was group head of risk and compliance, the statement said. He will report to Julie Page, CEO of Aon UK Ltd., the statement said.

“Matt brings great energy and experience to our risk and compliance team and we are delighted to have him on board,” Ms. Page said in the statement. “I would also like to thank John for the excellent job he has done as interim CRO and wish him well as he returns to his role as a non-executive director on the Aon UK Ltd. board.”
