The Alabama House on Tuesday passed a bill that would extend workers compensation benefits to the families of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty.
H.B. 192 passed on an 80-3 vote. The bill would allow the surviving spouse to receive benefits after remarriage and allow the surviving dependent children to continue to receive workers comp benefits until they are 18 years old, according to the bill’s latest text.
The bill heads to the Alabama Senate.
