L.L. Bean customer wants to return retailer's return policy

Nothing lasts forever, not even L.L. Bean Inc.’s historically generous return policy of being able to return anything, anytime.

Which is why one unhappy customer is suing Freeport, Maine-based L.L. Bean over this recently announced change: a one-year return policy, CNBC reported Wednesday.

Claiming the company broke a vow to customers, the lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in Chicago contends customers bought items because of L.L. Bean's unlimited "satisfaction" guarantee. The lawsuit accuses L.L. Bean of breach of warranty, the news network reported.

The plaintiff is seeking class-action status and unspecified damages or an order that L.L. Bean honor the old warranty.

The retailer announced its change Friday, saying too many people have been abusing the system. A company spokeswoman told CNBC that the lawsuit “misrepresents” the new policy, adding that purchases made before Feb. 9, 2018, are not subject to the change so long as customers provide proof of purchase.
