Israel fines building contractors under new safety regulations

Israel's Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Social Services fined local building contractors 19 million Israeli shekels ($5.4 million) in January for violating a new safety ordinance for construction sites, Haaretz reported. Inspectors fined 660 building sites for safety violations out of the 700 sites that they visited. The most common safety violations discovered were scaffolding work without personal protective equipment and work on substandard scaffolding, failure to appoint a job site foreman and failure to conduct safety checks, among others.
