Calif. regulators suspend 11 more medical providers

Regulators have suspended 11 more medical providers in California, bringing the total suspensions to 177 since state law now requires the California Division of Workers Compensation to suspend any medical provider, physician or practitioner from participating in the comp system when they are found to be involved in criminal activity or are unable to perform duties safely.

A.B. Bill 1244, which went into effect Jan. 1, 2017, is responsible for the string of suspensions that call for the division director to ensure that convicted criminals are not legally allowed to treat injured workers.

In the latest round, most of the providers were suspended for fraud, including Medicare fraud to the tune of $13.6 million, and other criminal actions or the loss of their license, according to a press release.
