Roche, Novartis face $110 million in fines after court decision

The European Court of Justice has ruled that an arrangement between Swiss pharmaceuticals firms Roche Holding A.G. and Novartis A.G. to increase the sales of an expensive drug in Italy can be considered in breach of European Union competition rules, Interactive Investor reported citing Alliance News. Italy's competition authority fined the firms about €90 million ($110 million) each over the practice in 2014. The EU Court, in rejecting the drugmakers’ appeal of the fines, said that the final decision on whether to uphold penalties rests with Italian administrative courts.
