Mets may tap player insurance as former star heals

New York Mets former star David Wright hasn't played in nearly two years, but Chief Operating Officer Jeff Wilpon confirmed that insurance will allow the team to recoup 75% of his pay provided he misses at least 60 games, NJ.com reported Tuesday.

The insurance policy taken out on Mr. Wright's contract is coming in handy as the seven-time All-Star third baseman has been off the field since May 2016. Rehab from a neck injury interrupted his shoulder surgery, which was then interrupted by back surgery, the news outlet reported.

How long will he be out? No word. The spinal stenosis persists, and it always will, since there's no cure for the degenerative condition, only ways to manage the pain, according to the news outlet.
