XL Catlin expects $315 million in catastrophe losses

Bermuda-based reinsurer XL Catlin expects to record an estimated $315 million in catastrophe losses for the fourth quarter of 2017, The Royal Gazette reported. XL Catlin said that the recent wildfires in Southern California caused about $45 million in net losses, while another $20 million were related to other events. The reinsurer recorded nearly $1.5 billion in aggregate net pre-tax losses related to catastrophes including hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria in the third quarter of 2017.
