Former NHL player suing Nashville Predators for medical benefits

A former National Hockey League player is suing his former team for medical benefits and compensation under Tennessee’s workers compensation system.

Eric Nystrom filed a lawsuit through an attorney in late December in Davidson County (Tenn.) Circuit Court.

Mr. Nystrom played for the Nashville Predators from 2013 to 2016 and during that time sustained hip, cervical and concussion injuries. The injuries left Mr. Nystrom “totally disabled” for a period and he retains permanent partial disability. Mr. Nystrom immediately reported each of his injuries to his employer, according to court documents.

Professional athletes are allowed to collect benefits and potential payments under Tennessee’s workers comp statute.

Gregg Ramos, Mr. Nystrom’s attorney, said he knows of no updates in this case since late December.
