African airlines pay higher insurance premiums due to low capacity and safety: Official

Esayas WoldeMariam, managing director of international operations at Ethiopian Airlines Enterprise SC, said that African airlines pay higher insurance premiums than their counterparts in other parts of the world due to low capacity and inability to build a high standard of safety, This Day reported. Mr. WoldeMariam said that insurers' risk assessment is based on past experiences and safety standards. African airlines need to build capability by way of safety assessment, accident predictions, aviation facilities and safety equipment to reduce premiums, he added.
