BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Insurance and reinsurance legal work is intellectually stimulating for Teresa Snider, and promoting women in the sector gives her additional satisfaction after 25 years in the business.

“This industry has a wonderful combination of interesting factual business and legal issues. It’s very intellectually satisfying to try and figure out the facts of what underlay a particular insurance or reinsurance trans - action,” said Ms. Snider.

As a partner with Butler Rubin Saltarelli & Boyd L.L.P., she provides legal advice to clients in the insurance and reinsurance sector, decides overall case strategy, takes depositions, and manages and tries cases.

Ms. Snider has been with the law firm since 1994 and became partner in 1999.

Ms. Snider is also a co-founder of Women in Reinsurance, a forum that brings women in the reinsurance industry together to network and discuss issues of interest. Such organizations are important because there is still disparity between men and women in the workplace in terms of pay, opportunities and the amount of interaction that men and women have with senior people within their organizations, she said.

“Because of these disparities that still exist in many workplaces, it’s important for women to have a space where they can discuss the challenges they face as a woman in business, they can be provided with support, they can hear from other women who have been in their situation and learn what strategies have been successful for them while working with other women to brainstorm ways address problems and take advantage of opportunities,” she said.

Alysa Wakin, New York-based vice president of claims counsel at Odyssey Reinsurance Co., calls Ms. Snider a “go-to attorney” in the industry.

“She is very calm, even and driven. I would say she is very dedicated and has some of the best substantive knowledge of anyone out there,” said Ms. Wakin.

Jim Rubin, founding partner of Butler Rubin Saltarelli & Boyd and Ms. Snider’s mentor, credits her analytical ability.

“She is just smarter than everybody else ... when you combine exceptionally bright with discipline and judgment ... then you have the total package, and she has both,” he said.
