France could fine Fiat Chrysler more than $11 billion for diesel emission fraud

The French government could fine U.K.-based automaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. about €9.6 billion ($11.4 billion) if the automaker is found to have committed fraud by cheating on diesel emissions tests, Automotive News Europe reported citing Le Monde. French prosecutors are investigating Fiat Chrysler, Germany-based Volkswagen A.G. and France-based Renault S.A. after tests found that on-road nitrogen oxide emissions exceeded regulatory limits.
