Tumasie Blair, a diplomat for the Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbuda, said that hurricane Irma caused $250 million worth of damage on the islands, Climate Home News reported. Ms. Blair said that the regional insurance program in the Caribbean paid out only $6 million for hurricane-related damage. The finance on loss and damage should come from established channels through the United Nations' climate body, and insurance can be used for risk minimization, she added.
