Workplace harassment gets the SNL treatment

You know an issue has become an integral part of the culture when it winds up on “Saturday Night Live.”

Last week’s SNL update featured a new character: “Claire from HR,” who presented a “quiz” on sexual harassment in the workplace.

The frazzled-looking Claire, played by Cecily Strong, confessed, “I haven’t been home in three days” and later spritzed her mouth with hand cleanser, saying it gave her “a nice buzz.”

The first question on her quiz was on the appropriate way to handle a workplace relationship, with the possible answers listed as inform HR; “lock her in a room and make her look at it”; and “bully her out of the entire industry.” When Colin Jost gave the right answer — inform HR — she responded, “You’d be surprised how many people get that wrong.”

The skit ended on a somewhat ominous note, with Claire reassuring Mr. Jost, “I’m sure I’ll be back next week and the week after that, forever and ever, because all of this isn’t just a scandal. It didn’t just start last week. It’s just actual reality for half of the population.”
