Gallagher acquires Pittsburgh affinity businesses

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has acquired Pittsburgh-based affinity businesses Allied Business Network Ltd. and Smart Business Saving L.L.C.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Allied Business Network is a national program broker offering e-commerce access to products and services such as business supplies and services, car rentals and travel discounts designed to enhance loyalty and provide rewards to members of affinity groups throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe, Gallagher said Monday in a statement.

Smart Business Saving is a similar business with a white label program, Business Advantage Plus, for larger clients looking to offer discounts to their business customers, the statement said. It also serves clients across the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Jack J. Bergman and his team will report to Kevin Garvin, head of Gallagher’s North American affinity operations, the statement said.

“With their strong client relationships, wide array of products and deep knowledge of the affinity loyalty and reward space, ABN and SBS are terrific additions to our U.S. affinity operations,” said J. Patrick Gallagher Jr., Gallagher’s chairman, president and CEO, said in the statement.

Gallagher has been operating in the affinity space in North America since 2014, according to a spokeswoman. She said the business is focused on four primary business segments: programs for professionals and other associations, with offerings including errors and omissions and professional liability coverages; travel insurance; student insurance; and loyalty and reward programs.

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. is the world’s fourth-largest insurance broker, according to Business Insurance’s latest ranking.
