BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Former Chubb exec Degnan to head AIA

John Degnan, a former Chubb Corp. senior executive, will be the next president and CEO of the American Insurance Association, the trade group announced Wednesday.

Mr. Degnan will assume the role on Nov. 8. The previous top staff official of the AIA, Leigh Ann Pusey, left the association in June to take on a corporate affairs job at Eli Lilly and Co.

Mr. Degnan was most recently the chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, but he had previously spent 20 years at Chubb, rising to the position of vice chairman and chief operating officer. He retired from Chubb in 2010. Chubb was bought by Ace Ltd. in 2016 and the merged company was renamed Chubb Ltd.

Prior to joining Chubb, Mr. Degnan served as New Jersey attorney general under Democratic Gov. Brendan Byrne.

In a statement announcing the appointment, Christopher Swift, chairman and CEO of Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. and chairman of the AIA’s board of directors, said: “As a former AIA board member, John has a unique understanding of the association and is well positioned to help the entire property/casualty industry navigate future challenges. He possesses a rare blend of political acumen, strategic thinking, and business savvy.”
