OSHA cites wig company for warehouse safety hazards

Federal workplace safety regulators have cited and proposed $181,280 in penalties against a New Jersey hair distribution company for ongoing hazards at its warehouse.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Moonachie, New Jersey-based Mane Concept Inc. after an April inspection following a complaint of imminent safety hazards, according to an agency statement on Tuesday. OSHA inspectors found that the company failed to keep exit routes free and unobstructed, improperly used required work space around an electrical panel box for storage, and failed to properly store materials to prevent struck-by hazards. OSHA issued one repeat, one serious and two willful violations. The company was cited for similar violations in February.

“Mane Concept's repeated disregard of OSHA standards is unacceptable and jeopardizes the safety of its workers,” OSHA Area Director Lisa Levy, in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, said in the statement. “This company should immediately address these workplace hazards to ensure a safe work environment for its employees.”

A company spokesperson could not be immediately reached for comment.
