Swiss Re expects $3.6-billion claims bill from quakes, hurricanes

Swiss Re Ltd. said that its claims bill related to two earthquakes in Mexico and hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria in the United States is likely to total $3.6 billion in the third quarter, Reuters reported. The reinsurer expects to receive claims of around $175 million related to the quakes in Mexico alone. The total insured market loss from the hurricanes and quakes is estimated to total $95 billion, Swiss Re said.
