Former Aon P.L.C. group president Steve McGill has been elected to the Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.’s board of directors, the insurer said Thursday.

Mr. McGill, 59, who retired in January 2017, was also chairman of the brokerage’s Risk Solutions business segment, which was composed of it large account brokerage unit, Aon Risk Solutions, and its reinsurance brokerage, Aon Benfield.

A longtime London market brokerage executive, Mr. McGill joined Aon in 2005. Prior to that he had been CEO of rival brokerage Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group P.L.C.

Also named to Hartford’s board was Greg Woodring, 66, who served as president and chief executive officer of Chesterfield, Missouri-based Reinsurance Group of America Inc. from 1993 until his December 2016 retirement.

Mr. McGill and Mr. Woodring replace H. Patrick Swygert and Charlie Strauss, who will not stand for re-election in May 2018 upon reaching mandatory retirement age, Hartford said in its statement.
