Jamaica loses $100 million to cybercrime

Trevor Forrest, senior advisor at Jamaica's Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology, said that the country lost $100 million to cybercrime in 2016, Jamaica Observer reported. Additionally, Mr. Forrest said that more than 230,000 cyber threats were detected in just one month this year. The ministry is considering measures to secure and monitor national assets, including energy, telecommunications and the financial systems, he added. "Jamaica is exposed to 10 times more threats than any other Caribbean country," an official said.
