Burns & Wilcox expands in Philadelphia

Burns & Wilcox Ltd. on Wednesday said it has relocated and expanded its Philadelphia office into a space that gives the company the ability to double the current size of its staff.

A spokesman said the Farmington Hills, Michigan-based wholesale insurance broker and underwriting manager has no immediate plans to increase the Philadelphia staff. The company does not disclose the size of its staff, he added.

“As part of a long-term strategic development plan, Burns & Wilcox has prioritized specific locations, such as Philadelphia, for greater capital investments,” Alan Jay Kaufman, chairman, president, and CEO of H.W. Kaufman Group and its largest subsidiary, Burns & Wilcox, said Tuesday in a statement.

Jim E. Epting, corporate vice president, said in the statement that “the Burns & Wilcox presence in Philadelphia and the East Coast is growing at an increased pace and we have hired new associates to meet the demand.”

Employees in Philadelphia have consistently earned double-digit year-over-year growth, the company said in a statement, and the local office has achieved a roughly 30% increase in the past 12 months.

This is the wholesaler’s second investment in the state of Pennsylvania this year. In June, Burns & Wilcox said it had relocated its Pittsburgh employee base to the third floor of The Bentley, a state-of-the-art, sustainable solar-powered office high-rise in the city’s Greentree district.
