Business email cyber attacks cost Australian firms more than $15 million: Report

A report by the Australian Cyber Security Centre found that the cost of business email compromise attacks to local firms grew 130% to more than $15.5 million in the financial year ended June 30, compared with $6.7 million in the financial year ended June 30, 2016, Xinhua reported. Dan Tehan, Australia's minister assisting the prime minister for cyber security, said that the number of cyber attacks grew 15% to 47,000 in the past 12 months. Cases of online scams or fraud grew 22%, accounting for over half of the total number of cyber attack, Mr. Tehan said.
