Quake, hurricane damage nearly 340,000 hectares of crops in Mexico

Mexico's Ministry of Agriculture said that the Sep.7 earthquake damaged 138,000 hectares of crops including bananas, coffee and corn, Fruitnet.com reported. States reporting losses include Chihuahua, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Puebla and Yucatan, among others. Meanwhile, an official said that hurricane Katia, which struck Mexico on Sep. 8, is likely to have damaged more than 200,000 hectares of maize, pineapple, papaya, banana and other crops in Veracruz.
