American Airlines lawsuit: Don’t mess with the dress

A bride and recent law school grad is accusing an American Airlines flight attendant of trying to sabotage her wedding by spilling red wine on her dress on a flight to Jamaica and is suing the airline for $3.4 million, according to the New Jersey Local News. 

Plaintiff Yewande Oteh and her family were flying to from New Jersey to Jamaica for her wedding in 2015. While Ms. Oteh was checking her bags, an American Airlines ticket agent told her that she could store the gown in the staff’s hanging closet onboard the plane. But she later learned she couldn’t, facing a flight attendant who "became indignant and agitated, and began to talk to [the] plaintiff in a hostile, aggressive way, instructing her that the closet space was not for passengers," per the lawsuit, accessed by the newspaper. 

Instead, the dress was stored by itself in an overhead bin, according to the newspaper report.

Ms. Oteh claims that the flight attendant put something in the bin during the flight. The dress was later found soaked in red wine, according to the 31-page lawsuit, which accuses the flight attendant of "egregiously" destroying the dress intentionally.

The $3.4 million will cover the dress and the physical and emotional distress of Ms. Oteh having to fly to Florida to find a new dress, the newspaper reported. 

American Airlines told reporters that the airline is reviewing the lawsuit. Meanwhile, the flight attendant told a reporter, "It really didn't go like that at all.”
