Global piracy incidents decline 10% in first half of year: Report

A report by the Malaysia-based International Maritime Bureau’s Piracy Reporting Center found that incidents of ship piracy declined more than 10% to 87 cases in the first half, compared with 97 cases in the first half of 2016, Globalnews.ca reported. Cruise ships were safe from pirates, who targeted merchant ships and smaller boats, the report said. The U.K.-based International Maritime Organization said that 221 piracies and armed robberies occurred in 2016, down from 303 incidents in 2015.
