Nigeria loses nearly $25 million to thefts by bank staff

Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, managing director of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corp., said that the country lost 8.7 billion naira ($24 million) to thefts by bank staff in 2016, AllAfrica reported, citing Daily Trust. The figure reflects a decline of more than 48% compared with more than NGN 18 billion recorded in 2015. Reported cases of fraud and forgeries grew nearly 36.5% to more than 16,750 from nearly 12,300 cases in 2015, Mr. Ibrahim said.
