Rats! Chipotle woes continueReprints
New characters were introduced this week in Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc.’s saga of food safety.
Rats fell from a ceiling at a Dallas location, according to media reports.
Dallas diners dropped their burritos at lunch on Tuesday and picked up their cellphone cameras to record rodents scurrying around the floor and one climbing up the wall — video uploaded to social media and now available on multiple news sites.
Chipotle issued a statement saying it was "an extremely isolated and rare incident."
The new arrivals come days after a norovirus outbreak was reported at a Sterling, Virginia, restaurant, according to media reports. The Wall Street Journal reported that at least 133 people fell ill after eating there.
Chipotle made headlines in years past as it grappled with other food safety issues, including norovirus, E. coli and salmonella reported at various locations. At one point in 2016 the chain closed all its 2,000 locations for crisis management.
