Australian mining firm declares force majeure due to unsafe conditions at coal mine

Australia-based mining firm South32 Ltd. has declared force majeure on coal produced by its subsidiary Illawarra Coal Holdings Pty. Ltd., S&P Global Platts reported citing sources. The force majeure was declared due to unsafe gas levels at its Appin coal mine in New South Wales and intervention by the state regulator to halt production. South32 said that it expects a "long outage" at its Appin coal mine.
