Strip club sued for discriminating against male bartender applicant

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is going after a Fort Walton Beach, Florida, strip club after it failed to hire a male bartender in 2015, the Associated Press reported Friday.

The federal lawsuit filed Thursday by the EEOC alleges that Sammy's Gentlemen's Club violated federal law by refusing to hire a male applicant because of his gender and by failing to maintain federally required employment records, according to the wire report.

James Sharp, who was reported to have had bartending and management experience, attempted to apply for a bartender position but the manager told him the club didn't hire male bartenders, the suit states.

Sammy's hired 17 female bartenders and no male bartenders during 2015; the EEOC asserts that this would violate Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits sex discrimination for any job applicant, the suit alleges.
